Obituary: Winnie D. “Skip” Hancock

July 25, 1947 – January 24, 2020

Winnie Douglas “Skip” Hancock of Bedford, passed from this
world on Friday, January 24, 2020, surrounded by the love of his life,
Susan Elaine “Susie” Hancock, as well as other family and friends.

Born July 25, 1947, in Bedford, he was the son of William Emerson and
Bertha Mae (Lee) Hancock. He married Susan E. “Susie” Brock on
February 6, 1987, and she survives. He was an electrician for General
Motors. Skip was a U.S. Army veteran. He served on the Army Security
Agency while doing two tours in Thailand and received numerous awards.
He was a member of the Mitchell VFW Post 9107 and the Bedford
American Legion Gillen Post 33. He was a lifetime member of the
Bedford Boat Club. He was a past member of IBEW Local 16. Anyone who met Skip instantly loved him. He lit up a room simply by his presence in it. He loved his family and he loved his friends, of which there were many. Thank you to all those who were a part of his life’s story.


Survivors include his wife Susie of Bedford; four children, Andrea Dawn
Davis and husband Bill of Plano, TX, Steven T. Megnin of Bloomington,
Malissa Hancock and wife Rachel Kornowski of Franklin, TN, and Jeremy
Megnin of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Nikki Usey and husband
Gary of Forney, TX, Heather Reese and husband Joshua of Arlington, TX,
Mallory Davis of Dallas, TX, Patricia Davis of Dallas, TX, Mary Soto and
husband Julio of Garland, TX, Tony Davis of Richardson, TX, Roger Davis of
Englewood, CO, and Logan Megnin of Bloomington; five great-
granddaughters; one brother, Wilbur Butch Hancock and wife Beverly of
Lafayette, IN; and one niece and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepmother, Mae Hancock.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28th in
the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Brian
Bolton officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Gillen Post 33.
Visitation will be from Noon until the hour of service on Tuesday, January 28th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
