4-Year-Old Boy Dies After Accidental Shooting

(BLOOMINGTON) – A 4-year-old boy died Thursday after he and his father sustained gunshot wounds on Sunday while wrestling on a bed.

The incident occurred on Sunday, January 19th in the 1200 block of East Zinnia Drive in Bloomington.

Police say the father, 36-year-old Tyler Shaw, had a concealed handgun in the small of his back and was wrestling on a bed with his 4-year-old son Tripp Shaw when the gun fell and a shot was fired, striking both Tyler and Tripp in the head.

The father and son were taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Tyler Shaw was life-lined to IU Health Methodist in Indianapolis and is expected to recover, according to police.

Tripp was life-lined to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis where he later died from his injury.

Police say this is an active investigation and are investigating how the gun discharged.
