Obituary: James W. May

October 24, 1927 – January 23, 2020

James W. May, 92, of Springville, passed away at 1:50 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2020, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born October 24, 1927, in Avoca, he was the son of Delbert and Ethel (Long) May. He married Joanne Hert on March 2, 1951, and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2003. He retired as a welder for Westinghouse and was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church and a veteran of the Army Air Corps.

Survivors include a daughter, Rachel May, of Springville; three sons, Steve May, and wife, Patty, Alan May and wife, Karen, and Tom May, all of Springville; a sister, Deloris Hoffman, of Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Paul May and wife, Trena, Amy Snow and husband, Chipper, Brandy
Guarneri and husband, Justin, Tony, and Ethan May; seven great-grandchildren, Koltan Guarneri, Levi Guarneri, Billie May, Joseph May, Ezekial May, Patricia Snow, and Carter May.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 27th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Paul May officiating. Burial will follow in the Springville Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 26th and from Noon until the hour of service on Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
