Obituary: Larry Roger Harding

October 12, 1938 – January 17, 2020

Larry Roger Harding, 81, of Shoals, passed away Friday, January 17, 2020, in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born on October 12, 1938, in Daviess County, Indiana to Joseph E. and Lois E. (Earl) Harding. He married Shirley Cornett on September 1, 1957, and she survives.

Larry graduated Shoals High School in 1957, attended Northwood Institute and was a graduate of the Indiana School of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis. He retired from Jefferson Trucking Co., was a member of Teamsters #135, served as Coroner and County Commissioner in Martin County, was a funeral director at Queen-Lee Funeral Home, and worked as a security guard at the French Lick Hotel.

His memberships included the Eagles Lodge Aerie 2442, Martin County Historical Society, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion War Dads and the Eagle Scouts. He was also a fourth-day member of the Southwest Indiana Walk to Emmaus.

Survivors include his wife Shirley; four children, Teresa (Brian) Hewitt of Terre Haute; Tami (Chris) Jones of Loogootee; Todd Duvall Harding of Shoals; Tawni (Brad) Ridgley of Wheatland; grandchildren, Matthew Jones, Joseph (Jennifer) Hewitt, Jordan Smith, Ashley (Brooks) Knight, Molly (Cory) Kassis, Summer Dreiman, Megan (Brandon) Wedding, Robert (Haley) Ridgley, and Levi Steinman. Great-grandchildren surviving include Mattyson, Mosby and Marly Jones; Ashlyn Dreiman and Carter
Lawrence Hewitt; and one sister, Pat (Gordon) Wade of Washington.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals with Pat Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Queen-Lee Chapel. A memorial service by the Eagles Lodge in Shoals will be held at 8 p.m.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Larry’s memory to the Martin County Humane Society or to the Martin County Historical Society.
