Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Drug Task Force Received $25,665 Grant from Hoosier Uplands

(BEDFORD) – Today Lawrence County Prosecutor Sam Arp accepted a check in the amount of $25,665 from Hoosier Uplands to support his newly created Drug Task Force. Prosecutor Arp had applied for the grant to assist in the purchase of equipment for the task force and was pleased to receive the funds.

“I am grateful to Hoosier Uplands for supporting our efforts to fight drugs in our community. These funds will help not only Lawrence County but also surrounding counties as we work together to tackle the challenge of finding and arresting drug dealers. We will seek every resource we can to equip our law enforcement officers with the tools necessary to clear the streets of the dangerous drugs being trafficked in and out of this area” said Arp at the check presentation.

The grant to the Drug Task Force was part of a Public Safety Improvement Program through Hoosier Uplands, located in Mitchell.

Other recent PSIP award recipients include the Orange and Crawford County Sheriff’s Departments, Lawrence County Emergency Management, and the Huron Fire Department.

Hoosier Uplands CEO, David Miller, is looking forward to seeing this grant funding go to work toward improving public safety in the region.

“We are pleased to join with Prosecutor Arp’s Drug Task Force and their efforts to combat the drug problem in Lawrence County by contributing to the purchase of equipment. We know this award will be put to immediate use and we are eager to see the positive results from this investment. We believe it will help fight the huge drug problem in our area and benefit our local counties for many years to come,” said Miller.

The Task Force, formed in April of 2019, is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement team that includes the Indiana Attorney General, the Indiana Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mitchell Police Department, and the Indiana State Police. The team is dedicated to seeking out illegal drugs being transported in and out of Lawrence County on the roadways.
