One Injured in Two-Vehicle Accident on State Road 37

(OOLITIC) – One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Sunday at 6:27 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 37 and Main Street in Oolitic.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report, 21-year-old Keelie Fleetwood, of Springville, was traveling north on State Road 37 in a 2007 Ford Edge with a blue light bar activated. Fleetwood is a volunteer firefighter and was responding to an active call.

Police say Fleetwood was approaching the intersection of State Road 37 and Main Street in Oolitic when she traveled through the intersection and disregarded the red light.

At the same time, 46-year-old Robert Hurley, of Oolitic, was traveling east through the intersection in a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. Hurley told police he didn’t see Fleetwood’s vehicle until it was too late and the Jeep hit the driver’s side of Fleetwood’s vehicle.

Fleetwood had two passengers in her vehicle and none of these individuals reported being injured during the incident.

In the meantime, police say that 48-year-old Julia Cantrell, of Oolitic, a passenger in Hurley’s vehicle, complained of neck pain and was transported by ambulance to IU Health Hospital for treatment.

Hurley was not injured during the incident.
