Canstruction is Back to Help Food Pantries Restock

(UNDATED) – Registration is NOW OPEN for the 2020 Canstruction Competition!

What is Canstruction? It’s a canned food drive and design competition in one, but best of all it’s a fun, creative, and unique way to help food pantries restock their shelves after the holidays.

Participating teams of state employees who sign up by Jan. 17 will build a structure of their choice entirely from cans of donated food. All state agencies are invited to participate. There is no limit to the number of teams per agency. At the end of the competition, the structures will be dismantled and all food will be donated to a local food bank or other charity chosen by the participating team.

Teams can build their structures in any work location where they won’t create safety issues or impact ordinary agency operations. The structures must be completed between Jan. 20 and Jan. 31. Photos with descriptions and total number of cans should be sent to spdcommunications@spd.in.gov by Jan. 31. Teams should deliver their cans to their chosen charity on or after that date.

Teams will compete for two awards: Most Cans Donated and Best Structure. Governor Eric Holcomb, Director Terry Stigdon from the Indiana Department of Child Services, and Director Britni Saunders of the Indiana State Personnel Department will serve as judges.

Winners will be announced Monday, Feb. 3.

This is a great opportunity to assist a local charity with restocking after the holidays while having fun showcasing your teamwork and design skills! With a little bit of creativity — and a lot of canned goods — state employees CAN make a difference in their communities.
