Melissa Gilbert Hired As Mitchell Junior High School Principal

(MITCHELL) – The Mitchell Community School board has agreed to hire Melissa Gilbert as Assistant Junior High School Principal which will be effective January 6, 2020.

The school board met in a special session on Monday evening to vote on personnel matters.

Gilbert will replace Steve Grissom, who was hired to serve as principal of the Hatfield Elementary School. Grissom replaced Renee Childress who was appointed to serve as Title I Coordinator.

Gilbert is a 1996 graduate of Bedford-North Lawrence High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Evansville and a Master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2006.

She is currently a sixth-grade teacher at Orleans Elementary School. She has been with Orleans Community Schools since 2007. Before being hired at Orleans she taught fourth grade at Throop Elementary School in Paoli and Cedar Hall Elementary in Evansville.

Her parents are Jim and Cheryl Jackson of Bedford, and Paul Cox of French Lick. She and her husband Jared have been married for over 15 years and have three children: Carson 14, Owen 11, and Lola 8. Her husband teaches junior high, social studies and coaches girls varsity at Orleans.

Mitchell Community Schools are seeking appraisals for property located at 503 N. North Street in Mitchell. The board acquired property adjacent to the property earlier in the year.

Betty Wilson was hired as the school corporation LPN. She will serve on a part-time, interim basis. She will begin on January 6, 2020.

A salary schedule for all support staff will be voted on at the January meeting.
