Newspaper Carrier Dies in Auto Accident

(NORTH VERNON) – A newspaper carrier for the Republic Newspaper was found dead from a vehicle accident on Friday. 

On Friday morning, the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police received a missing person report after family members became concerned about him not returning from his newspaper route.

Jimmy Turner, 69, was found dead at the crash scene near Indiana State Road 3 and County Road 650 South, in Jennings County.

The Indiana State Police and Jennings County searched for his vehicle and it was not found in an initial search of the area. Later in the day a more extensive search of the area was organized which included law enforcement agencies, local fire departments, and volunteers.

The vehicle was finally located at 9:30 p.m. Friday, when searchers found a vehicle overturned in the water off of the west side of the roadway.

According to Indiana State Police Trooper David Owsley the accident happened around 7 a.m.

Police say on Friday morning Turner was traveling southbound on Indiana State Road 3 near County Road 650 South in a 2001 Chevrolet Equinox when the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason.

The vehicle overturned in a creek out of view of passing motorists, and there were no witnesses to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
