Elnora Woman Arrested after Escaping from ISP Trooper Vehicle

(ELNORA) – An Elnora woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after an Indiana State Trooper stopped her vehicle after she committed numerous traffic violations near Elnora.

The driver, identified as 44-year-old Myra Winkel, was stopped at 12:40 p.m.

Trooper Steve Nolan determined Winkel was intoxicated and she was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction and OWI with a passenger.

Once she was handcuffed and placed in the trooper’s patrol vehicle, Winkel managed to unbuckle herself and get the door open. She then fled from the vehicle.

The trooper caught Winkel attempting to squeeze through a fence.

A charge of escape was then added to the charges she is facing.

Winkel was transported to the Daviess County Jail and is being held without bond until her initial hearing.
