Charles Ely, 88, of Oolitic, died at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at his residence.
Born August 10, 1931, in Harlan, KY, he was the son of Isom and Martha (Napier) Ely. He married Lois Yeary on September 7, 1951, and she survives. He was a master truck driver and farmer. He was a member of the Laborers and Hod Carriers Union #741. He was an avid lover of horse pulls, fairs, farming, and raising cattle.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Oolitic; a daughter, Charlene, and husband, Jim, of Martinsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twelve brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 16th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Lewis Seward and Ron officiating. Entombment will follow in Cresthaven Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 pm.. on Friday, November 15th and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday, November 16th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to Bertha’s Mission or the Men’s Warming Shelter of Bedford.
