Rex Earl Morris, 93, of Mitchell, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.
Born February 19, 1926, in Mitchell, he was the son of Elmer and Ella (Pruett) Morris. He married Mary Lou Melvin December 15, 1944, and she preceded him in death on August 11, 2009.
Rex was co-owner of Crawford-Morris Lumber Company and retired in 1994. He was a 70-year member of Liberty Baptist Church and a 1944 graduate of Mitchell High School. Rex enjoyed woodworking and took great pride in his lawn. He and Mary Lou were campers and traveled across the United States.
Survivors include his daughters, Judith Ann (Kenneth) Tanksley of Mitchell; Janet Elaine (Jim) Cord of Tolono, Illinois; grandchildren, Bryan Scott Tanksley, Jessica Ann Howard, Jennifer Lynne Pace, Allison Marie Artis; great-grandchildren, Justin, Gabriel, Ava, Jaslynne, Jerilynne, Mason, Dylan, and Olivia.
His parents; wife; and sister, Mary Davis, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 2, at Liberty Baptist Church with Reverend Wade Judy and Pastor Brice Menaugh officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center and from Noon until the service on Saturday at the church.
