(FRENCH LICK) – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will host a public hearing on Thursday, November 7, at Springs Valley Jr. / Sr. High School, at 326 South Larry Bird Blvd. in French Lick, at 6 p.m.
The purpose of the public hearing is to offer all interested persons an opportunity to comment on preliminary design plans and environmental documentation for the proposed New Airport Road / County Road 300 South road realignment from State Road 145 to County Road 375, at the entrance to the Orange County French Lick Municipal Airport in Orange County.
The purpose of the project is to provide a safe roadway meeting current roadway design standards, enhancing travel to and from the French Lick Municipal Airport in Orange County.
The existing airport roads County Road 350 South and County Road 375 South do not provide adequate safety for drivers or passengers traveling to and from the airport along with the only direct roadway network between the airport and State Road 145.
In addition to enhancing safety for the traveling public, the proposed road realignment project also takes into consideration airport operations and economic development in proposing this transportation improvement.
The current access road to the French Lick Municipal Airport, County Road 350 South and County Road 375 South, each known locally as West Airport Road, are deficient in roadway geometrics and the lane widths are inadequate.
The French Lick Municipal Airport has experienced a significant increase in air traffic due to travelers visiting nearby attractions, increasing vehicular traffic to and from the airport.
The environmental documentation and preliminary design plans are available to view prior to the public hearing at the following locations:

INDOT is seeking public comments regarding the environmental documentation and preliminary design plans for the New Airport Road C.R. 300 South road realignment project and encourages the community to attend the public hearing.
Public comments will be accepted through Friday, November 15, 2019. INDOT respectfully requests comments be submitted by this time.
Verbal statements for the public record will be accepted during a public comment session offered during the public hearing immediately following the formal presentation.
