Washington County Sheriff’s Department Investgating Fatal Crash Saturday Morning

(SALEM) – On Saturday morning at approximately 2:35 am, Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a crash reported on Franklin Church Road.

At the scene, Deputies discovered a 2003 Dodge Durango which had been traveling north on Franklin Church Road. The vehicle was being driven by 33-year-old Stephany Thurmanof Pekin, Indiana. There was one passenger in the vehicle, 33-year-old Matthew Lozierof Salem, Indiana.

Evidence at the scene indicated that Thurman drove left of center for an unknown reason and off the west side of the roadway. The vehicle then traveled back across the roadway and off the east side of the roadway, where the vehicle rolled over and came to a rest on its top.

Evidence at the scene indicated that Thurman was not wearing a seatbelt. Thurman was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash from head trauma. Lozier stated he was wearing a seatbelt and appeared to have no injuries. Lozier refused medical treatment.

Deputy Lucas Gray is investigating the crash. Deputy Gray was assisted by Deputy Allen Taylor, the Washington County Ambulance Service, Franklin Township First Responders and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
