North Ousts BNL in Semifinal

BNL’s Graham Turner played a tough first set before falling to North’s Andrew Laken during sectional action on Thursday.

(BLOOMINGTON) – Bedford North Lawrence’s 2019 season came to a close with a 5-0 loss to Bloomington North in the IHSAA sectional semifinal on Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars were pressed during only two sets on the five courts while advancing to the final.

BNL’s Graham Turner owned a 5-4 lead over Andrew Laken in the opening set at No3 singles, but Laken rallied for a 7-5, 6-1 victory. Adam Tlustek forced the issue in the first set with Nate Abdullah at No.2 singles before falling 6-4, 6-0.

North dominated the other courts. Nick Shirley stopped Cade Provo 6-0, 6-0 at No.1 singles. Max Graf and Arpan Bose decked Wyatt Scherschel and Cameron Gratzer 6-0, 6-2 at No.1 doubles, while Mason Ross and Kellen Rhea rolled past Konley Woodward and Steven Graham 6-0, 6-1 at No.2.

BNL, which loses three seniors off the roster, finished the season with a 13-11 record.
