Akers, Owls Wing Past Stars

(SEYMOUR) – Seymour’s Simon Akers scored twice as the Owls closed the regular season with a 2-1 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during boys high school soccer action on Thursday evening.

Akers gave the Owls a 1-0 lead at halftime with a goal at the 27-minute mark, and he netted the game-winner with 12:56 left in the second half.

“It was a tough one,” BNL coach Logan Jackson said. “We gave him too much space and he did his job, put them in.”

The Stars (8-6-2 overall, 1-3-2 in the Hoosier Hills Conference) pulled even with 18:40 left when Josh Anderson headed in a free kick from Seth Sherfick.

“We had couple of other opportunities but just couldn’t finish,” Jackson said. “We’ve got into the habit of starting flat and not being ready to go. We changed the lineup in the second half, and the effort was better. But we have to put two full halves together. If do that, we can compete with anybody.”

BNL will face Terre Haute South in the first round of the Class 3A sectional at Bloomington South on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
