Obituary: Mary Alice Davis

July 7, 1923 – October 2, 2019

Mary Alice Davis, 96, of Bedford, died Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Garden Villa.

Born July 7, 1923, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Charles and Vivian (Fultz) Rout. She married William Kindred in 1941 and he preceded her in death on December 30, 1952. She later married William Davis. She was a graduate of Shawswick High School with the class of 1941.

She retired as a secretary for the Transportation and Maintenance Department of the North Lawrence Community Schools after twenty-four years. She was a member of the Leatherwood Christian Church since 1937, a volunteer with Dunn Memorial Pink Ladies, the Bedford Hiking Club, and Lambda Chi Omega Sorority.

Survivors include a grandson, Brian Pace, of Boston, MA; two nieces, Jill (William) Tatom, of Bedford and Judy (Rick) Rutledge, of IL; a son-in-law, Bruce (Kelley) Whittredge.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Kindred; her former husband, William Davis; a daughter, Charlene Whittredge; a sister, Frances Meadows; a brother, Raymond Rout; two nephews, Dale Meadows and Donald Rout; a niece, Marilyn Sherman.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 6th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Sherman Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Leatherwood Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until the hour of service on Sunday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
