(MONTGOMERY) – Bedford North Lawrence finished 5th during the 17-team Barr-Reeve Invitational boys race on Tuesday afternoon.

The Stars totaled 142 points. Jasper won the meet with 28 points. In the girls race, the Stars were 8th out of 15 teams with 228 points, while South Knox won that title with 50.

In the boys race, Cooper Holmes was 8th overall in 16:38.7, Ethan Vaughn was 23rd in 17:33.7, and Colton Sons was 25th in 17:37.8.

“I feel like we got the train rolling again after a few down weeks,” BNL coach Jon Calhoun said. “Our 2-3 runners got back to their solid finishes. What was really exciting was the athletes’ push of racing the person next to them, especially on the second lap of the course.”

Jasper’s Abe Eckman was the individual champion in 16:21.6 as the Wildcats claimed the top three spots.

In the girls race, Grace Tanksley paced the Stars, setting a new personal record while crossing the line in 20th place in 21:24.5. Lindley Steele also had a P.R. (22:32.5) while finishing 34th.

“The cooler weather was a definite help tonight,” BNL coach Jill Vance said. “Three of the four girls who ran this meet last year had big improvements.

“Grace and Lindley had particular nice mile splits. The second mile on this course is tough, definitely the slowest mile. Factoring that in, they both ran practically identical splits for all three miles. That’s the kind of strength you want to see.”

Jasper’s Andi VanMeter was the individual winner in 18:55.5.

The Stars will host the annual Ted Fox Invitational on Saturday.
