Male Juvenile Facing Charges After Fight at Thornton Park

(BEDFORD) – A Bedford teen is facing battery charges after police were called to Thornton Park on Friday after a report of an injured juvenile.

According to Bedford Police Chief Terry Moore, officers were met by the juvenile victim and his parents.

“The victim told officers another juvenile walked up to him at the playground and shoved him in the chest,” says Chief Moore. “The victim told the male he didn’t want to fight and was then slapped in the face several times by the other male. He then punched him at least eight times with a closed fist.”

The victim suffered pain and had redness and swelling to his face.

“His parents wanted to file charges against the other juvenile,” added Chief Moore. “Officers located the mother and the accused a 13-year-old male a short time later and advised them of the complainant.  The accused declined to speak with officers about the incident.”

Lawrence County Probation was contacted and advised officers to release the juvenile to his mother with a signed promise to appear on a charge of battery causing bodily injury.
