(INDIANAPOLIS) – In June of this year, the 45 Indiana State Police K-9 teams received, trained in the use of, and deployed to the field a revolutionary pet tracking technology, which helps handlers ensure the security of their K-9 partners.
Furtrieve combines cellular pet tracking technology, two-way communication, crowd-notify capabilities, and an interactive application to provide the most comprehensive way that handlers will be able to track their K-9 partners anywhere, both on and off duty.
“With the amount of time, training and equipment that goes into making our K-9 program such an integral part of our Department’s law enforcement capability, this new piece of equipment helps provide a level of insurance to that overall investment”, said Sergeant Dennis Wade, Indiana State Police K-9 Coordinator.
The Indiana State Police K-9s are cross-trained for a variety of uses to include narcotics detection, article searches, building searches, tracking for missing persons, tracking for suspects and handler protection. They have also been trained to work in concert with the various assignments handled by both the Indiana State Police S.W.A.T. and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams.
