IU Alumni Association South Central Region to Host “Bicycle Boogie” to Raise Money for Scholarships

(COLUMBUS) – Those who love the outdoors and pedaling through spectacular scenery are encouraged to register for “Bicycle Boogie” to be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

Hosted by the Indiana University Alumni Association South Central Region (IUAA SCR), the ride begins at the Columbus Learning Center and then takes riders west through great autumn-colored sites including Pikes Peak, Bellesville, Harrison Lake, and Columbus Youth Camp.

Riders will then wind through Mill Race Park and tour through the city of Columbus.

There are three well-marked routes available to riders including a leisurely 12-mile tour that meanders along the Columbus People Trails system, an invigorating 30-mile scenic tour of Columbus and Bartholomew County, and the ultimate 55-mile trek that offers an unforgettable ride through the hills of Bartholomew and Brown Counties. The courses are all designed with your safe cycling in mind.

The cost to register is $25 in advance, $30 on the day of the ride and includes an event t-shirt while supplies last. Proceeds from the event will help fund the IUPUC Alumni Association Scholarship which supports students pursuing an Indiana University or Purdue University degree at IUPUC.

“For the past several years, granting scholarships to current IUPUC students has ensured that they become future IUPUC alumni,” said IUAA SCR President, Matt Rothrock. “The IUAA SCR and, indeed, the IUPUC Alumni Association before that, have worked diligently to endow our scholarship fund in order to meet the needs of outstanding students who require help achieving everything they set out to do while on the Columbus campus.”

Participants will begin their rides at the Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Avenue, Columbus, Indiana starting between 8-10 a.m. with coffee, pastries, and granola bars to fuel up. There will be SAG (Support and Gear) stops all along the way, and all routes will return riders to the Columbus Learning Center.
