Man Arrested After Causing Disturbance, Making Bomb Threat

(BLOOMINGTON) – Bloomington Police were able to resolve a bomb threat made at IU Health Hospital on Monday after they determined the threat was made by someone inside the building.

The incident began when officers were called to the 200 block of South Westplex Avenue around 8:30 a.m. after a report of an intoxicated male causing a disturbance at Wheeler Mission.

Officers escorted 39-year-old Luke Baer from the property. But he returned a few hours later and was again yelling at people.

When officers returned, Baer was laying in the middle of the sidewalk pretending to be asleep. He could not stand without assistance. Officers arrested him on charges of public intoxication and transported him to IU Health to be medically cleared before transporting him to jail.

While at the hospital, Baer asked to use his cell phone to call his brother to tell him that he was being arrested.

A short time later officers were alerted that a bomb threat had been made. Police were able to determine the number that made the call was that of Baer’s cellphone after hospital security called the number that made the call and Baer’s cellphone rang.

Baer was then arrested on an additional charge of intimidation.
