East Rolls Past BNL in 3 sets

(COLUMBUS) – Columbus East kept its perfect Hoosier Hills Conference record intact with a three-set sweep of Bedford North Lawrence during high school volleyball action on Tuesday night.

The Olympians improved to 7-4 (4-0 in the league) with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-15 win while BNL slipped to 1-15 (0-4 in the HHC).

Reece Whitehead had 9 kills and Rilee Jessee had 12 digs for East.

“Columbus had some big kids and they are always ready to compete,” BNL coach Jordan Robbins said. “We were able to make scrappy plays, but too little too late.”

Annie Waggoner was 10 of 10 serving with 5 points, 14 assists and 5 digs. Carlee Kern was 6 of 6 serving with 9 kills and 6 digs, Haley Deckard added 5 kills, 2 blocks and 7 digs, Maddy Bennett was 7 of 8 serving with 4 points, and Hayley Davis was 6 of 6 serving with 4 points for the Stars.

“We served well and forced East to work for plays,” Robbins said. “Passing has been our biggest issue. But we will be back at work tomorrow. We will continue to work hard and improve our skills, along with our team dynamic.”

The Stars will host Washington on Thursday.
