(BEDFORD) – Brownstown swept the singles off the hot asphalt.

With the feels-like temperature at triple digits – and add a few more degrees of heat and difficulty for those toiling on the fiery furnace surface – the Braves sweated out a 3-2 victory over Bedford North Lawrence on Thursday afternoon.

Brownstown evidently didn’t mind the heat. BNL coach Donnie Thomas blamed the losses on lack of movement, and it took extreme will power to chase down shots in the sweltering conditions.

Ethan Isaacs clipped Cade Provo 7-5, 6-3 at No.1 singles, Ethan Davis stopped Adam Tlustek 6-3, 6-3 at No.2, and Kelian East wore down Graham Turner 6-2, 6-2 at No.3.

BNL’s hot spots were in doubles. Cameron Gratzer and Wyatt Scherschel topped Reece Carlin and Griffin Stidam 6-4, 6-2 at No.1, while Steven Graham and Konley Woodward defeated Trent Luedeman and Cole Shasteen 6-2, 6-2 at No.2.

“Doubles were really playing well,” Thomas said, “especially No.2 doubles.”

The Stars will compete in the Edgewood Invitational on Saturday.
