(BLOOMINGTON) – A homeless man was injured after two people attempted to steal his backpack while he was sleeping outside of the Monroe County Public Library Thursday morning.

According to Bloomington Police, the 34-year-old male woke to the two people pulling on his backpack and demanding that he give it to them.

The man refused to cooperate and was physically attacked. The man told police he was hit more than ten times with what he believed was a black handgun.

The man told police he didn’t get a good look at his attackers because he was not wearing his glasses. He believes they were males and one was wearing a white hoodie.

After the attack, the men grabbed his backpack and fled heading west from the library on Kirkwood Avenue.
