BNL Boys Finish 14th, Girls 20th in Tiger Run

LOUISVILLE – BNL’s Colton Sons churns toward the finish line during Saturday’s Tiger Run race. The Stars finished 14th as a team.

(LOUISVILLE) – Bedford North Lawrence finished 14th among a huge field in the prestigious Tiger Run during boys cross country action in Louisville on Saturday morning.

The Stars totaled 432 points. Floyd Central won the title in the 34-team event with 68.

In the girls race, BNL was 20th in the 26-team field. Floyd Central also won that championship with 60 points.

Cooper Holmes paced the Stars in the boys race, crossing the line in 29th place in 16:54.89. Colton Sons was 69th among 302 racers in a time of 17:37.80.

“It was another step in the right direction,” BNL coach Jon Calhoun said. “I am ecstatic that I am starting to see some members of the team learning how to race. It’s not really about the time but racing the person next to you.

“It isn’t easy because the human body likes to be comfortable, but for our team goals to happen, and to make it far in the postseason, we have to be uncomfortable and wanting to always move forward.”

Ethan Vaughn (104th in 18:05.40), Isaac Williams (129th in 18:23.67) and Isaak Gilbert (167th in 19:10.17) completed the scoring for the Stars. Western Hills junior Griffin Staude was the individual champion in 15:50.24.

LOUISVILLE – Grace Tanksley set the pace for BNL in the girls race, finishing 87th overall.

In the girls race, the Stars totaled 558 points. Grace Tanksley set the pace, finishing 87th in 22:37.51, dropping 20 seconds from her time last week.

“I was pretty happy with the team’s mile splits overall,” BNL coach Jill Vance said. “They seem to be pacing a lot more evenly, which bodes well for the future. We really need our middle group to close the gap, so that’s going to be a big focus for us moving forward.”

Myra Roberts (125th in 24:01.36); Lindley Steele (152nd in 25:03.02, a new PR), Lynnae Greene (170th in 25:46.23) and Anna Butler (196th in 26:53.05) completed the scoring for the Stars.

Ashlyn Liddell of Bluegrass Union was the individual winner in 18:52.71.

The Stars will return to action on Monday, hosting the annual Scott Hiles Invitational.
