Bloomington Man Arrested After Fatal Accident

(BLOOMINGTON) – A Bloomington man was arrested after police say he was intoxicated and crashed his PT Cruiser, causing the death of his passenger, 32-year-old Matthew Michael.

The accident happened on Saturday, Aug. 10, just after 11 p.m. in the 8200 block of State Road 48.

Police arrested 31-year-old Conrad Spangler-Pearson early Tuesday morning in Owen County on warrants charging him with leaving the scene of an accident and operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail on a $15,500 bond.

According to court documents, Spangler-Pearson was driving a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle ramped up an embankment and crashed into a tree.

Spangler-Pearson who suffered serious facial injuries fled from the scene. Police found him lying in a nearby field of tall grass. Police say Spangler-Pearson smelled of alcohol and could barely walk. He was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment.

Officers found Matthew Michael, of Bloomington, lying on the ground near the wreckage. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
