Columbus Man Dies from Self-Inflected Wound at Rest Stop

(BARTHOLOMEW CO.) – Following a forensic autopsy performed this afternoon, Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting has ruled this death to be a suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot.

The incident happened at a rest stop on Interstate 65 in Bartholomew County.

Deputies rushed to the scene after receiving a 911 call and the caller reporting hearing a single gunshot just after 6 a.m. at a rest stop, about three miles south of the Taylorsville/Edinburgh exit.

Deputies arrived and found the body of 63-year-old Alvin Bickell, of Columbus lying on the ground.

Bickell was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
