Muncie Teachers Receive First Pay Hike in Eight Years

(MUNCIE) – More money for teachers in Muncie.

The school board on Tuesday voted to give teachers at Muncie Community Schools their first pay raise in eight years and also approved a higher starting salary, reports The Star Press.

When the 2019-20 school year begins, new teachers will get a starting base salary of $36,500, an increase of almost $2,000.

Teachers with two or more consecutive years in the district will see base salary increases ranging from $2,100 to $2,400, according to The Star Press.

The school board also voted to increase hourly rates for substitute teachers and approved the hiring of nine permanent substitute teachers.
