125 Brave Heat In Limestone 5K

(BEDFORD) – The 44th Annual Limestone 5K was held this past Saturday. More than 125 runners faced the morning temperatures hovering at 77 degrees.

The oldest individual to take part of the event was 90-year-old Steve Hamilton. It was also the birthday of long-time volunteer Roy Ritter. A birthday wish was nicely placed on the t-shirt he received.

The event takes place every year to raise funds for scholarships at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County. These funds allow all Lawrence County youth to be part of the activities at the club.

To keep the runners and walkers hydrated water stations were placed every half mile.

“We are excited that we got the race in without getting anyone hurt, especially with the heat,” says Dr. Jim Sowders. “This event is the longest-running 5K in Southern Indiana.”
