(INDIANAPOLIS) – Two people are in the hospital following a Wednesday morning fire that was set intentionally, says the Indianapolis Fire Department.
It happened on the city’s south side, in the 1100 block of East Cragmont Drive, just after 9 a.m. Crews were able to get the fire under control minutes after arriving on the scene.
While two of the three people inside the home were able to get out on their own, a 59-year-old woman had to be rescued by firefighters. She was transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition. As of Wednesday afternoon, she was listed in critical condition.
The other woman, a 75-year-old, was also taken to the hospital, but is in good condition. A 57-year-old man did not sustain any injuries.
Additionally, two dogs have been accounted for and are OK while one cat did suffer serious smoke inhalation, did receive oxygen on the scene and was taken to an animal hospital. A second cat is unaccounted for and has yet to be found.
Damage to the structure has been estimated at $40,000.
Police are now investigating, and trying to find suspects that are responsible for the fire.
