Williams Volunteer Fire Department Back In Service

(WILLIAMS) – The Williams Volunteer Fire Department is back in service after being asked to dissolve by the Indiana Attorney General’s Office for failure to file reports to the Secretary of State in 2018 and 2019.

The fire department received a notification on May 5, 2019, from the Secretary of State Connie Lawson that it had been administratively dissolved and it’s authority to do business was revoked or terminated.

The Lawrence County 9-1-1 board took the fire department out of service on June 5, 2019, after it was determined they were no longer a legal entity.

The fire department filed the necessary paperwork to the Secretary of State, and they have been officially put back into service with the ability to respond to emergency calls.

A public meeting is scheduled on August 3, 2019, at 7 p.m. at the Williams Volunteer Fire Department. The purpose of this meeting is to respond to questions from the public and discuss the situation they are dealing with.
