(VINCENNES) – An August 23rd, 2019 sentencing date has been set for 55-year-old Robert Baldwin.
The Vincennes father called 911 to report he killed his own son. He also told police he had planned the 5-year-old boy’s death.
Baldwin pled guilty but mentally ill in the April 5, 2017 murder of Gabriel Baldwin.
Robert Baldwin admitted to murder, strangulation, and battery to a child under 14.
Baldwin said he first tried to smother him with a pillow, and when that was not successful, he choked the 5-year-old using a USB cord. Baldwin reportedly told investigators that he then sat on the boy until he stopped breathing.
Under the sentencing guidelines, Baldwin could face up to 65 years in prison.
