(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indiana Republican Party Chairman Kyle Hupfer released this statement ahead of first-term State Senator Eddie Melton’s announcement tonight that he is launching an exploratory committee for a potential run for governor of Indiana.
“As Eddie Melton explores a potential campaign for governor he will keep hearing the same refrain: Governor Eric Holcomb is one of the nation’s most popular governors,” said Hupfer. “That’s because Governor Holcomb is delivering real results for Hoosiers in every corner of the state, including, as Senator Melton knows well, in his own hometown of Gary. No town, city, county or region of Indiana is forgotten as Governor Holcomb leads Indiana to record job commitments, record infrastructure investments and new opportunities for all Hoosiers to build their skills and their careers. It’s happening everywhere, and Governor Holcomb is leading the charge.”
Senator Melton’s announcement follows news last month that Governor Holcomb’s approval rating stands at 54 percent and his disapproval is at a very low 24 percent, according to national polling firm We Ask America. The poll’s analysis highlights that “re-election looks all but guaranteed” and that “Governor Holcomb is on the cusp of running away with his own re-election.”
