Former Gary Technology Chief Sentenced For Computer Thefts

(HAMMOND) – A former government employee in northwestern Indiana has been sentenced to more than five years in prison after being convicted of use municipal funds to buy more than $1 million worth of computer equipment that she then resold.

A federal judge Tuesday sentenced 47-year-old Monique Bowling-Boyd of Merrillville to 63 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release. She was found guilty in January of one count of theft from local government receiving federal funds.
Court documents say Bowling allegedly stole and obtained by fraud more than 1,500 Apple computer devices under the care, custody, and control of the City of Gary.
Bowling once was Gary’s head of information technology services.
