Bloomington Neighborhoods Invited To Participate In 19th Annual Celebration June 1

(BLOOMINGTON) – Bloomington’s neighborhoods will be in focus at the Farmers Market on Saturday, June 1, for the 19th annual Blooming Neighborhood Celebration.

Neighborhoods are invited to prepare for their participation in the event, which will take place from 10 a.m. to Noon at Showers Plaza in front of City Hall (401 North Morton St.). The City’s Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department hosts the celebration, whose theme for 2019 is “Lighting the Way.”
At the celebration, each neighborhood will have the opportunity to promote itself and showcase its activities with images and informational displays. Neighborhoods may choose to highlight the projects they have completed using City grants. HAND will make a listing of all Small and Simple Grants, Neighborhood Improvement Grants, and Neighborhood Cleanup Grants it has awarded since 1998 available to each neighborhood to display at its table.
In preparation for the celebration, each neighborhood is invited to contribute to a collaborative idea book. “My Neighborhood Pot Luck Idea!” is a compilation of “recipes” containing the ingredients of successful neighborhood projects completed over the years. Neighborhoods are invited to contribute their own recipes by requesting a template from HAND. Hard copies of the book are available on request.
“From Blue Ridge to Broadview, Arlington Valley to Arden Place, our neighborhoods are full of engaged folks, working together to make Bloomington a better place every day,” said Mayor John Hamilton. “This event is a great way to connect with other residents and learn more about ways the HAND department can support your neighborhood.”
Neighborhoods may reserve a table at the event by contacting Vickie Provine at provinev@bloomington.in.gov or 812-349-3505. Each neighborhood that reserves a table will receive “Blooming Neighborhoods – Lighting the Way” flashlights for the neighborhood volunteers who staff the table.
