Off-Road Vehicle Crash Claims Life of an Aurora Man

(DEARBORN) – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an off-road vehicle (ORV) crash that claimed the life of a Dearborn County Resident.

On May 23rd, 2019 at approximately 8:40 p.m., William (Wyatt) Yelton, 21, of Aurora, was operating a Polaris Razor 1000 on private property at approximately the 18000 block of Ellinghausen Road. Investigators believe that Yelton turned onto Ellinghausen Road, where he lost control of the ORV. The ORV went into the ditch where Yelton was ejected from the vehicle. A family member found him a short time later, pinned under the ORV, but was unable to move it and called 911.
The Dearborn County Coroner pronounced Yelton deceased at the scene.
Indiana Conservation Officers, Dearborn County Sheriff’s Deputies, Manchester Fire, and EMS and Aurora Fire and EMS arrived shortly after the crash and are currently investigating.
A helmet, protective riding equipment or the ORV’s safety belt was not being utilized at the time of the crash.
Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to wear seatbelts when applicable, helmets and necessary safety equipment. ATVs are susceptible to rolling over in various terrain types, regardless of speed and other factors.
