Jane Young of Hatfield Elementary Named 2019 School Food Service Employee of the Year

(INDIANAPOLIS) – In partnership with the Indiana Nutrition Council, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) announced today Jane Young of Hatfield Elementary School in Mitchell as the 2019 School Food Service Employee of the Year. Beginning her service as a dishwasher and more recently as cafeteria manager, Jane has served at Hatfield Elementary for 16 years.

“Ensuring our students are provided healthy and nutritious meals to keep their minds and bodies engaged in learning is important to their success,” said Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction. “I want to congratulate Jane Young for her dedication and thank her, along with all school food service employees across the state, for their service.”
Created in 1997, the Indiana School Food Service Employee of the Year Award provides formal recognition to school food service employees who contribute significantly to the health and learning capabilities of students. To be nominated, employees must demonstrate high-quality customer service, positive attitude, professionalism, and teamwork.
As a School Food Service Employee of the Year, Young will receive a plaque from IDOE showing formal recognition of her achievement, along with a $200 award provided by the Indiana Nutrition Council.
