Bloomington City Pools Open Saturday For The 2019 Season

(BLOOMINGTON) – The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department’s two outdoor pools, Bryan Park Pool and Mills Pool, open for the 2019 season this weekend.

Bryan Park Pool, located at 1020 S. Woodlawn Ave., is open May 25 through Sept. 2. Operating hours are 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily, with abbreviated hours beginning Aug. 4 when the Monroe County school system is back in session.
Mills Pool, located at 1100 W. 14th St., is open May 25 through Aug. 4. Operating hours are 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily.
Admission fees for both pools are $5 per person (youth and adults). Children ages 3 years and younger are admitted free.
Visitors to the pools this year will see significant upgrades to the bathhouses. According to aquatics coordinator Chelsea Price, $359,000 in general obligation park bond funds was used to replace the shower and sink fixtures, install new toilets and waterless urinals, and build a private shower stall and a private changing room in each of the men’s and women’s bathhouses at both Bryan Park Pool and Mills Pool.
Less visible but critical upgrades include new water control valves in the pool’s mechanical rooms and new water pumps at Mills Pool.
“New restroom and bathhouse fixtures will help conserve water and keep our bathhouses cleaner and more sanitary,” Price said. “Our mechanical rooms are the heart of the pools, and keeping the pumps and filters up-to-date and well maintained reduces pool downtime.”
Pool patrons who are frequent visitors may purchase a $50 season pass that allows unlimited admission to Bryan Park Pool and Mills Pool for one individual during the summer 2019 season.
Bloomington Parks and Recreation aquatics staff will also host three, two-week, Monday through Thursday swim lesson sessions, and one, eight-week Saturday swim lesson session. Swim lessons are available for all ages and skill levels, from Minnows (adult with a toddler) to Swim Team 101 and Diving 101. For more information about swim lesson sessions and registration deadlines, visit bloomington.in.gov/parks/pools. Swim lesson registration fee is $60 for Bloomington residents and $70 for out-of-city residents.
Aqua Yoga water exercise classes at Mills Pool begin June 8. Attendees may choose to participate either on floating mats in the pool or on yoga mats on the pool deck. For more information, or to register for Aqua Yoga, visit bloomington.in.gov/parks/pools.
