I-265 EB Remains Closed East of Charlestown Road In Floyd County Due To Sinkhole, Expected To Reopen Wednesday Evening

(FLOYD CO.) – The Indiana Department of Transportation closed I-265 EB early this morning between Charlestown Road and I-65 in Floyd County due to a sinkhole that was discovered underneath the roadway.

MAC Construction crews have been on site since early Wednesday morning working to repair the sinkhole on I-265 EB, between Charlestown Road and I-65. The hole was opened further to for proper repairs to be made in both eastbound lanes. The road is expected to reopen to traffic this evening.
A number of motorists reported a large pothole on I-265 EB Tuesday night, causing Indiana State Police to close the affected lane. After further investigation, a sinkhole was found underneath the roadway, prompting a full closure of eastbound lanes.
MAC Construction is currently on site working on repairs to fill and cap the hole.
In addition, INDOT will close lanes of I-265 WB this evening at approximately 6 p.m. to conduct an inspection of the westbound side of the roadway using ground penetrating radar. This will ensure the sinkhole does not extend under westbound lanes. Alternating lane closures will be in effect for approximately two hours.
INDOT expects to have I-265 EB reopened to traffic Wednesday evening.
