Bedford Men Arrested On Meth Charges

(BEDFORD) – On Tuesday, the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section and the ISP Bloomington District ACES conducted an investigation into methamphetamine dealing in Lawrence County.


On Tuesday, the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section and the ISP Bloomington District ACES conducted an investigation into methamphetamine dealing in Lawrence County. After conducting traffic stops, surveillance, and interviews, troopers obtained probable cause that methamphetamine dealing was taking place at both 404 M Street in Bedford and 1199 East Oolitic Road in Bedford. Search warrants for both addresses were applied for and granted.
During the execution of the search warrant on M Street, troopers located approximately 5 grams of methamphetamine, over 1 pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and other items of evidence of dealing.
While arriving to execute the search warrant on East Oolitic Road, troopers observed two males take off running from the garage into the house. Upon entry into the house, officers discovered that the resident, Mark S. Perry II, was flushing methamphetamine in the toilet. The males were detained. During the search, troopers located bags with methamphetamine residue (what was not flushed), paraphernalia, scales, multiple firearms, and evidence of dealing. One male was not arrested at the scene.
Arrested and incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail were:
John H. Staggs Jr.,47, of 433 Hearth Rd.

  • Dealing Methamphetamine, Level 4 Felony
  • Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony
  • Possession of Marijuana, Class B Misdemeanor
  • Possession of Paraphernalia, Class C Misdemeanor

Mark S. Perry II (45 yrs old from East Oolitic Road Bedford)

  • Dealing Methamphetamine with Firearm Present, Level 3 Felony
  • Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony
  • Obstruction of Justice, Level 6 Felony
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Class C Misdemeanor

Troopers assisting DES detectives were Sgt. Greg Day and troopers Chris Griggs, Chance Humphrey, Richard Klun (and K9 Loki), and Matt Hatchett.
