Woman Arrested After Near Head-On Collision With Police Car

(COLUMBUS) – A Columbus woman was arrested after a near head-on collision with a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputy.


At 5:25 p.m. Thursday, Deputy Andrew Whipker was traveling eastbound on 25th Street near Fox Pointe Drive when a car crossed the center line into his lane. The deputy was able to avoid a collision and turned his vehicle around to initiate stop the vehicle.
Police say the car continued traveling west in the eastbound lanes before driving into the grass on the south side of 25th Street.

Police talked to the driver, 27-year-old Shelby Harsh, and could smell and see the signs that she had been smoking marijuana.
Harsh told the deputy that she had smoked heroin and marijuana earlier in the day.
Police found a cut straw with burnt resident and tin foil with burnt residue on it in Harsh’s vehicle.
Police arrested Harsh on charges of driving a vehicle while intoxicated on a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police issued her a citation for driving left of center and driving while her driver’s license was suspended.
She was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and released after posting bond.
