Nikirik will serve in Judge McCord’s place as judge pro tempore. His term will begin effective May 20 and upon his filing of an appropriate written oath of office. He will remain on the bench until Gov. Eric Holcomb’s appointee assumes the office, or until further order of the court, whichever comes first.

The Indiana Supreme Court announced last Friday that McCord will resign from her office on May 20, the day that Nikirk’s appointment goes into effect.
Judge McCord was appointed to a 14-year term as a bankruptcy judge for the district court last week, succeeding retiring Judge Basil H. Lorch III. A search for Lorch’s successor began last June, and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals selected McCord to fill the spot.
Nikirk will be compensated at the same rate as the regular judge commencing from the effective date of his appointment.
