City of Bloomington And Habitat Partner For Affordable Housing Announcement

(BLOOMINGTON) – The City of Bloomington and Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County (HFHMC) invite members of the community to the launch for an affordable housing initiative Wednesday, May 15, at 4:30 p.m. at the Trail View neighborhood on Moravec Way.

The event will announce a partnership between the City, HFHMC, and local private supporters that will substantially increase the city’s affordable housing stock over the next five years.
“Affordable housing is a challenge in thriving cities like Bloomington across the country,” said Mayor John Hamilton. “Identifying partnerships with outstanding nonprofit leaders like Habitat is essential to tackling this challenge so that Bloomington can welcome new generations of residents and employers.”
HFHMC’s mission is to eliminate poverty housing by building decent, affordable homes in partnership with qualifying families. Since 1988, HFHMC has built over 200 homes, housing over 700 people, including almost 400 children. The Trail View neighborhood is HFHMC’s most recent housing development and is nearing full completion.
As part of its commitment to increasing safe, decent and affordable housing for its residents, the City of Bloomington has added or rehabbed more than 600 bedrooms of affordable housing over the last three years. In addition, the City partners with nonprofit developers such as HFHMC in order to allow more opportunities for families to build stability and generational wealth through homeownership.
“We are pleased to partner with Mayor John Hamilton in addressing the issue of affordable housing in the City of Bloomington,” said Wendi Goodlett, President, and CEO at HFHMC. “Working together in this initiative will allow us to impact more families in Bloomington and strengthen our entire community.”
On-street parking for those attending the event is available along West 11th Street. Those arriving on foot or by bike can access Moravec Way where it intersects the north end of the B-Line Trail.
