Vallonia Man Dead Following Crash In Cortland

(CORTLAND) – A 61-year-old Vallonia man died in a crash Friday night, near Cortland.


According to an Indiana State Police report, Lamar Anderson died following a two-vehicle crash on State Road 258.

ISP Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, says Anderson was driving westbound near the East Fork White River bridge around 9 p.m. when his red 2001 Chevrolet truck left the north side of the roadway. Anderson struck a guardrail before coming to a stop and facing east in the westbound lane.
Anderson’s truck was then struck by a 2014 Buick sport utility vehicle driven by 70-year-old Elizabeth Helwig, of Seymour.
Anderson was pronounced dead by the Jackson County Coroner’s Office. Helwig was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for non-life-threatening injuries.
Toxicology results on both drivers are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Holley was assisted by Trooper David Owsley, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Seymour Police Department, Seymour Fire Department, Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and Jackson County Coroner’s Office.
