Former Richland Fire Department Secretary-Treasurer Sentenced For Stealing Funds

(BLOOMFIELD) – The former Secretary-Treasurer of Richland Fire Department who admitted to stealing funds from the department was sentenced and ordered to pay restitution to the department.

According to Greene County Superior Court records, 35-year-old Jamie Sherer, of Bloomfield, was ordered to pay the department $3,854.89 in restitution and was sentenced to 1.5 years in the Greene County Jail with all suspended except 90 days which she will serve on home detention.
Sherer served a the secretary-treasurer of the department since April of 2017, and she pleaded guilty in a negotiated plea deal to using the department’s debit card to make unapproved cash withdrawals, make personal purchases and pay her bills.
Bloomfield Town Marshal Kenneth Tharp started investigating after the Richland Fire’s board president reported the missing funds in early July of 2018. Sherer was arrested in August of 2018 on charges of theft. She posted a $400 cash bond and was released from jail.
