Linton Man In Jail After Fleeing Fatal Hit And Run Accident

(JASONVILLE) – Jasonville Police arrested 66-year-old Billy Schubla of Linton Tuesday night after police say he fled a fatal hit and run accident Monday night.

Jasonville officers along with first responders were called to an accident in the area of the 400 block of West Main Street in Jasonville.
When they arrived, they found an unresponsive 54-year-old male. A witness told police the driver of an older Ford truck fled westbound on Main Street.
The injured man was flown by medical helicopter to Terre Haute Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries.
After the crash, Jasonville Officers along with Officers from Greene, Sullivan and Clay counties searched the area looking for the suspect.
On Tuesday, Jasonville Police used evidence from the crash scene and video from area businesses to the vehicle that fled the scene was a 1982 or 83 Ford F-150 XL pickup.
Using BMV records for Greene, Sullivan and Clay counties, Jasonville officer hit the road tracking down every truck that matched the description of the vehicle. That search led officers to Billy Schubla.
Schubla is facing a felony charge of failure to stop after an accident resulting in death.
“I am extremely proud of my of my guys today,” says Jasonville Police Chief Jim Gadberry. “Most of them including myself have had very little sleep in the past 24 hours, and it paid off. We put closure to this one in less than 24 hours, and I don’t know how you can ask for any more out of an awesome bunch of guys.”
