Rainbow Trout Released at Spring Mill State Park Lake

(MITCHELL) – More than 700 rainbow trout were released Wednesday in the lake at Spring Mill State Park.

The trout averaged 10 to 11 inches in length and weigh around a half-pound. They have been raised for the past two years at the East Fork State Fish Hatchery near Dogwood Lake in Montgomery.

Last year officials stocked the lake with 750 rainbow trout.
The Department of Natural Resources restocking effort kicked off in 2017 with the re-introduction of rainbow trout into the lake in March, when 750 fish were added to the lake. It was the first time the lake had been stocked since 2006. Six months later, 440 channel catfish averaging 8 inches were put in the lake.
You must possess a trout privilege stamp on your fishing license to fish for trout. It costs an extra $11 and allows you to fish for trout from April 1 to March 31 every year.
