Health Design Announces Transit Day At The Statehouse

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Health by Design, which convenes the Indiana Citizens’ Alliance for Transit (ICAT), will host Transit Day at the Statehouse on March 26.

The program will take place at the Indiana State House, 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about transit options in cities and towns throughout the state, interact with transit partners and providers, and celebrate advocates who have made significant contributions to improving transit service in Indiana.
“We are thrilled to again host Transit Day here in our state’s capital. It’s a fantastic opportunity for transit supporters to come together to connect with each other and with legislators,” said Kim Irwin, Health by Design’s executive director. “State-level transit funding has been stagnant for nearly a decade despite rising demand and greater need for transportation options among people of all ages, abilities and income levels. We intend to demonstrate to decision-makers that transit is a wise investment of state budget dollars.”
Transit Day at the Statehouse is a unique opportunity to convene stakeholders from across the state, including riders, community partners, and transit service providers. Advocates are asking for an increase in the Public Mass Transportation Fund to 50 million dollars and for other policy and funding solutions that will lead to sustainable and dedicated support for transit.
The agenda will include the following:

  • 9:30 a.m. – Assemble at the Statehouse & Visit Exhibitors
  • 10:30 a.m. – Program, Awards & Media Event
  • 11:30 a.m. – Lunch
  • 12:30 p.m. – Meet with Legislators
