Man Found Dead In Fire Rubble

(BLOOMINGTON) – Officials have not released the name of the man who died in a fire Monday night on State Road 446, but believe he had been reported missing while firefighters battled the blaze.

A woman approached firefighters at the scene Monday saying her husband was missing and that prompted a search for the missing man.
According to Monroe Fire Protection District Chief Dustin Dillard, they contacted Bloomington Police about the possible missing man and a fatality at the fire scene.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze in the 22-by-30 building and with the assistance of police removed sheet metal that had fallen and in the process discovered the dead man.
The body was discovered about a half an hour after a motorist reported the fire just after 9 p.m. in the 9600 block of South Ind. 446. The entire building had collapsed before firefighters arrived, and flames were spreading to an adjacent field. All that was left was the metal roof and siding.
The State Fire Marshal was called to the scene and determined the fire was not intentionally set.
The Indiana State Police is investigating the fire death.
